Can I get a tour?

Yes! It’s best to call ahead. The best time, of course, is when school is in session. Please come by and see us.

What are your extended childcare hours?

We have staff available from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. for early morning care.

For K3 and K4, afternoon daycare is from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For K5, elementary, and high school, afternoon daycare begins at 3:30 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.

Is daycare affordable?

Very much so. The pricing is so affordable that we are frequently asked to clarify if our monthly fee is a MONTHLY fee.

What is your admissions philosophy?

Our school welcomes church families and, as space allows, other families who affirm our Statement of Cooperation (included in the application). High school students must be Christians who have accepted Christ as their Savior and desire a biblical education. TBS isn’t for everyone, but for families committed to Christ seeking a loving school with strong academics, it may be the right fit.

What curriculum do you use?

We primarily use Abeka in grades K3–6, emphasizing strong foundational skills. In grades 7–12, we use a variety of curricula, including BJU Press and Saxon Math, to develop critical thinking. We believe effective teaching is more important than any single curriculum, so we regularly evaluate and adjust our materials to best meet students’ needs.

What are your normal school hours?

K3 and K4: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

K5 through 6th grade: 8:15 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

7th grade through 12th grade: 8:00 a.m. through 3:26 p.m.

What about lunch?

The real question is: Do you have a hot lunch program? We do! But many students still pack a lunch. Inquire through the school office for hot lunch program details.

Do you have a fine arts program?

Music lessons are offered at a very reasonable cost at the school. We also compete in the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools (ODACS) academic, Bible, and fine arts competition. We could be wrong here, but it appears over half of our school is engaged in music lessons, so if you are interested, get on the list! We offer lessons in piano, strings, and woodwinds.

What is your student-to-teacher ratio?

It varies. The goal is to have small class sizes, remembering that student tuition income goes directly to the faculty salaries, so it’s an interesting balancing act.

Is TBS accredited?

Temple Baptist School is a member of the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools (ODACS) and is fully accredited in the Kindergarten – 12th grades by the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Temple Baptist School’s accreditation is recognized by the Virginia Council for Private Education (VCPE).

Do you have field trips?

Each class goes on at least two field trips throughout the year to places like Ft. McHenry, Gettysburg, Harper’s Ferry, the National Aquarium in Baltimore and Paris, France. Our smallest students take a few more local trips, like the pumpkin patch and farm. We love field trips! Are you serious???? Paris? No. We are not. But we might go to Paris, Virginia.

Do students wear uniforms?

Yes, our uniform provider is Flynn and O’Hara and Schoolbelles. Although you may see ties in photos for fine arts competition, our young men do NOT wear them at school. Uniforms remove the whole social economic thing and put everyone on the same level.

What about your sports program?

While TBS does not operate a formal school sports program, students can participate in volleyball, basketball, and soccer through Temple Baptist Church’s youth group at no cost. This allows church, public school, homeschool, and TBS students to participate together. As a school, we focus on academics and fine arts, though many of our high school students take part in the church’s athletic programs.

Any K3 requirements?

Students must speak English and also be able to go to the restroom on their own. We have many non-native families at TBS, but we need to be able to give instructions and the student must be able to understand and follow instructions.
