HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our High School: (Grades 7-12)
We have small class sizes, a rigorous curriculum, and a spiritual atmosphere. All of our teachers have a masters degree (some have two) or are working on one. Our students are very prepared for college. It is our expressed goal that they excel in their college studies. Because of our belief in a Christian education, we promote Christian colleges, but we prepare our students for anywhere. We also desire to prepare them not just for a job - but for life.
Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:26 p.m. The day starts with a 30 minute Bible class and ends with either PE or a study hall. The school year is typically shorter; we are out for the summer by Memorial Day.
Small class sizes and a Christian ethos make our school more like family than school, but it's all about learning. But we're not all about books, so we provide social opportunities and the occassional trip to Starbucks as well.
Students compete in the Old Dominion Association of CHurch Schools in academics and fine arts.
Athletic opportunities are available through the ministry of Temple Baptist Church at no charge. (Girls volleyball, boys soccer and basketball)
There is a weekly chapel service (30 minutes) with a year long theme. This year, the theme is apologetical: Unshakeable Faith addresses the need for students to be able to defend the Christian faith with love and grace to an increasingly secular humanistic world.
Saxon Math, BJ Press, ABeka and various texts that best meet student needs. For Spanish, we use electronic textbooks. [For Virginia History, we use Dr. Dalton's book on Virginia History.]
