Closings & Delays
Our policy is to follow the Fairfax County Public Schools for emergency closings. (That way, you can blame them for a mis-call instead of us.) Of course, there are rare times when we break from this protocol.
On September 9, 2011, FCPS shut down their entire system due to excessive rain. TBS was open and had most of our student body show up; it worked out very well. So it's a general policy, rather than an absolute one. (Another example: We have had to call off school for snow when FCPS students were already out for a teacher workday. In that case, FCPS made no call as they did not have to do so.)
Your best option is to check the school website. We also call WTOP 103.5 FM, C-SPAN, although for some reason, the last two never bother to broadcast our closings. Seriously, it's on the school's FACEBOOK and TWITTER feeds, so follows us for updates.
And you can always check with the FCPS website since we let them make the call. (So if case you get angry at the closing or the lack of closing, remember who is making the call: not us.)
Cool feature: You can actually have Fairfax County send you an e-mail when FCPS schools are closed. Sign up on their web site. We do.
Bottom Line: After all that, we will also E-MAIL you. (Why didn't you tell us that in the first place?) We'll never tell.
